No photos today .. our main computer is being looked at .. it’s been acting a little crazy .. so it’s at the store for a lookey-loo. Fingers crossed it can be fixed and so we can hobble on for a while.
In the meantime, we’re using our little ole Toshiba laptop … it’s a bit slow … but it works like a little workhorse, so, paid for and we’re glad that we have it.
I could drag in the external hard drive, where all my photos are stored .. but am just in a lazy mode.
The winds were crazy all night .. whipping around the city .. continuing until late afternoon. Early afternoon I was on my way to the Friends of the Library book sale and was surprised to see one of the two exit side streets was cordoned off. So I moved my little car around, down the street and out onto the main road via the other exit.
Saw the police car with the “pretty blue & red lights” parked at the entrance to the side street, and noticed that an old tree had broken off and was hanging down, part way on the road.
Continued on my way to the library, found a good parking space and then made my way to the side office to purchase my $7 “all you can carry” ticket. Then, outside, and, wonder of wonders .. I was the first person in line! That’s a first.
Not too much longer and the doors opened and the crowd thronged in to begin attacking the heavily book laden tables. I decided to “not” go to the gardening section and instead went for the hardcover fiction .. chose some familiar names and a random supply of unknowns, even if I find some books that I don’t like .. what can I lose?
It didn’t take too long to fill a wheeled box and 2 bags with books. Should I leave and go home now? Took the containers to the car and decided to return to the tables. Ok .. this time I decided to check out the gardening section. Hmmmmm… here were some treasures that I just know weren’t on my bookshelves at home. Including a treasure with alphabetical dictionary of latin names. Sweeeeeet.
And then, how timely, found some glass painting books, so ….these will be helpful. Some decorative paint books.
Then .. .my eyes spied a book on spins and turns .. a book on flying! I quickly added this to my bag. Made my way around some other tables, and OMG … how could this be! I couldn’t believe my eyes! There were a number of weather books, explanations, colour photos. Books on aviation. I swiftly gathered these up to add to my stash. This is the very first time that I’ve ever seen these books. The sale had started on Friday, continued on Saturday and Sunday morning. Here it was Sunday afternoon and no one had noticed these wonderful books? Oh, my .. lots to read and discuss with DH!
I spent the 2 hours lost in a fog (like everyone else there!) picking books, filling bags, taking them to my car. Heard a Friends of the Library volunteer talking with a buyer and she noted that the lady didn’t seem to be choosing many books .. well, said the lady .. this is my fifth visit! I just had to laugh at that. For myself, I’d only made 3 trips to my car. To be true, I’d started out with a folding box, 3 full bags, then 3 more bags, then finally 2!
Once home, I separated my new purchases into types (gardening!!! crafts, fiction and “flying”!) Oh, such fun.
Ok, I guess that this means that, really, I must miss the next book sale … I really do have enough (for now, hee hee).
It’s been a great day. More fun stuff happened, but it’s time to call it a day!
