Suddenly September is here ..  arrived quietly, unobtrusively.  My birthday month! And the weather is predicted to be nice .. yeah!!

So much for being nicely tired yesterday.  Just finished watching the daily episode of Coronation Street (oh, Molly, Molly, what are you thinking of!!)

Late in the evening, heard a crunch of tires driving & parking in the freshly sifted gravel out front.  Soon a key turns in the front door.

DH is home .. what?   Home early from work?  Uh oh … owie from work.  Quickly drive to emergency.

Notice that emergency has been moved and there is a separate roadway to the location.   It’s been a long time (thank goodness) since we’ve been there.

Wait for a few hours.  A whole other world, there.   Staff are friendly and very professional, despite the late hour.

A young guy, had punched his arm through a window .. “hey, man” .. slowly sobering.  Emergency stretchers arriving.

A little guy, with a face that shows that he’d made hard contact with the surface of a road or sidewalk .. is being carried in.  Luckily he is smiling and looks happy despite his facial abrasions.

A mother-in-law visiting  from Korea, no medical insurance purchased, high blood pressure – this will cost a basic of $500 +.  Pays to take out medical insurance when travelling.

Two ladies speaking fluent Russian … on and on and on.   Maybe recounting their life history??

A group of people arrived, a person on a stretcher had been transferred from a Washington state hospital and back to VGH.

A  busy enough place to be.  Atmosphere was calm.  Noticed the two-way mirror .. good way to monitor any rowdy behaviour.

I must admit my patience was wearing thin.   And I was so worried about dh’s injuries …

Finally, our turn to be seen by the medical personnel.   Doctor was wonderful and he soon had everything under control .. wounds taken care of and stitches in.  Wounds looked bad to me and I’m thankful that nothing was broken.

Nurse efficiently administered care, including needle, cleaned up the situation and sent us home with more materials for followup care.

I can only imagine what situations the medical personnel has to deal with during their shifts and I sure appreciate their dedication to their job.  All were calm and took the time to deal with everyone on a personal yet professional level.

Back home in the early hours of the morning .. the events of the evening are now just like a dream.  Home … sweet sweet Home.

Kitty Kats are in their beds, sleeping.  I hug dear little JaneE Kat and am thankful that we are in our lovely comfy home again.  Back to normal.

Now the healing begins.

On with this new day.  And waiting to hear about the delivery of my Miracle Mulch!!

Hmmm.. no answer from my Miracle Mulch …  I must try to be patient and wait to hear back from him.  Except I’m so looking forward to shovelling this marvellous product through the yard!

Went out shopping at mid-day.   Wrote out a list, clipped my discount and points coupon and my store card to the little notebook.  I’m becoming quite the organized person, it seems.

And so I wandered the aisles of the supermarket, feeling like quite an efficient person.   I’ve certainly picked up some new habits.   Good ones.

Pay for my groceries and trundle the shopping cart out to my car.

Check my pockets for my car keys.  I know that I put them in my right hand pocket.  I clearly remember that.

Except . .gulp . .now they aren’t there!  So I check every square inch of my backpack purse.  nothing.  I go through my shopping . .not there.

Return to the store.   Nope, the cashier hasn’t found my keys.

I go to the lottery ticket counter.   Finally it’s my turn to speak to the cashier.  No sooner do I utter the beginning of the sentence “I’ve lost my car keys …” when she cheerfully picks out my keys from a container and hands them over to me!  Well.. wow!  Some lovely person handed them in.

Perhaps they dropped out of my pocket when I was looking through items.   Well, this was a first.   I sure felt bereft for a few minutes.   My life flashed before my eyes… .when I didn’t have my keys.  Ok, I’m a little dramatic .. but I did feel a little lost.

Lesson learned and so I toss my purchases into my car and head for my next store.

The lovely Mediterranean store on Quadra.  It’s been quite a long time since I’ve been here .. so I went a little mad!

Some tzatziki, olive tapenade, sun-dried tomatoes, Canadian feta, humus, pressed yoghurt (oh, heaven… this is sheer bliss!), a variety of crackers, sesame bread sticks.  A chunk of Parmesan cheese (this shreds so finely on my Lee & Vally cheese shredder).  A large flatbread.   artichokes.  capers. french mustard.  horseradish mustard.

I just scoured the store for the items that were missing from the pantry.

Back home .. and prepared a little lunch-time feasting .. arranged the tapenade etc in little dishes, biscuits etc in bowls; pot of Yorkshire tea  .. arranged all on my Moroccan tray and soon we had a little feast going.   Such a lovely switch after last night.

And .. I’d taken some compost into the garden area .. and en route, took a look at the cucumber plants.    Saw a fat little cucumber sort of resting on the ground.  What???? Was this the remains of a fully grown plant?  Stepped forward, reached out and picked the fruit .. omg .. this was a cucumber, grown from a plant in my garden!

I was just so surprised.  Had spent so much time looking at the tomatoes, potatoes and corn that I’d completely forgotten about this plant.  So excited, I picked two fat cukes.  Then I noticed that there were many more growing along the vine which was happily climbing up the trellis that I’d attached to the pvc hoops.

This is such magic .. and I was so happy at this surprise.

Brought the cukes into the house .. peeled and sliced.   And prepared the slices according to the instructions of the owner of the Mediterranean deli.  I spread some of the heavenly creamy yogurt on the slice and topped with the tapenade.   How elegant.

Later on I went back  into the garden to see what was happening.  Tried to dig up some potatoes, but after removing some of the soil near the top of a plant, saw that there were more little potatoes started.   I feel like I’m waiting for Christmas morning to arrive so that I can open my presents!  Patience, patience!

Later I set about cleaning up my little buckets of plums that I’d gathered a few days. ago.  Pitted them .. threw in a large pot … added a little water, shredded some ginger.   Added a little sugar and a few tablespoons of “Babe’s” honey … I’ll miss seeing those jars in the store!

Stewed the mixture on the stove.    Delicious.   Had some with supper and placed the balance in little Ziploc bags in the freezer.   Plan to make more.

Another happy day.    Very energizing.   And I keep remembering my sailplane rides of last weekend.  I look forward to more this weekend.   I don’t think that I’ll bring my camera .. I’ll just enjoy the flight(s).

🙂
