A lovely sunny Saturday .. up early ..lots to do on this day. Out and about, driving through the quiet neighbourhoods, not much traffic this early.Later, returning home, DH slows the car and I’m curious .. did I miss something along the way?
Hmm .. suddenly I notice the reason for the stop .. there is a young buck, standing quietly at the side of the road. Motionless. Regal in his stance.. that’s the thought that ran through my mind as I stood there quietly looking at him.
His antlers looked to be new, they were covered in a soft fuzz. He looked so elegant. Then he gracefully stepped through a hedge, to nibble at grassy offerings at a neighbour’s place. When I pointed out the deer to the homeowner, he told me that the deer is a regular there .. and there are usually 2 of them, as they rove in pairs.
Well, I guess our high fenced yard keeps these creatures out of the garden .. so that’s why we don’t see them.
Anyway, soon the young buck had his fill and started his elegant walk down the road .. towards another yard … or perhaps a trail to the allotment gardens.
As I watched him fade away into the shrubbery .. I wished him safe travels.
Then .. time to pack some t-shirts and off we go … a day away … to Qualicum Beach .. where we have booked a lovely room with a full view of the ocean. A lovely little place .. and we’ll probably visit here again.
Last night I’d been surfing the net, trying to find a quiet place for our stay tonight. We had stayed at a lovely, perfect place a few years ago we’d heard it had been shut down .. and I was surprised to find it still listed.
So I called the number listed and .. found out that the hotel had been closed down and the number had been given to a resident. She was very friendly and helpful and tried hard to assist me in looking for a place. So, that is why I decided on this place to stay and it turns out that it was an excellent choice. There was only one room left, when I called to make the reservation and we are lucky.
This is a summer weekend and the full population of B.C. is set to celebrate. All around us we see campers, RV’s, massive motorhomes .. and the miles length of shoreline is full of happy people, tanning, swimming, taking dogs for walks.
Finally.. a little taste of summer.
I’ve been reading little articles in the paper lately, about vacations, and how they are good for the soul. So I’m enjoying this one!
And tomorrow .. we go to Port Alberni airport to see some drag races. They are quite famous, actually. The cars are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
So I’m charging up my trusty camera so I can take lots of photos of these might machines.
This little vacation, getting away from home for a short while .. is fun!
